AB HIV-infected people has difficulties of getting medical services.
Especially HIV-infected people with hemo-dialysis has difficulties,
because of high risk of infection of medical workers. To eliminate these
difficulties, it is necessary to improve socio-medical support for
HIV-infected people with hemo-dialysis and education of medical workers.
A 50-year-old man was admitted to the hospital because of fever, general
fatigue and weight loss. Antibodies to HIV was examined and p24 antibody
was positive. Because of chronic renal failure, hemo-dialysis was
required. He wished to transfer to the hospital which is close to his
home, to continue hemo-dialysis. At first, he was refused to admit to
the hospital. However, after explanation of management of HIV and
importance of medical support, he was able to admit to the hospital.
From this case, we learned importance of socio-medical support for
HIV-infected people with hemo-dialysis and education of medical workers.
Since medical workers of hemo-dialysis have high incidence of exposure
to blood of patients, knowledge about prevention of HIV infection is
important.
